Infrastructure for businesses with a server of their own, or without one

We build, tidy and document the infrastructure your work rests on: the server in your office, virtualised or in the cloud, or from scratch if you have none. We move specific services, not the whole company.

What you get, by name

Documents and configurations you can take with you.

  • The inventory of the machines, with what each does and what depends on it.
  • The documentation of how it is put together, written as it is built.
  • Automated, verified backups with a restore already tested.
  • The arithmetic of what the cloud costs you and whether it is worth it.

What we find in somebody else’s infrastructure

Nobody designs an infrastructure in one go; it arrives gradually, piece by piece.

Unmaintained servers, storage nearly full

Servers nobody maintains, resources grown too small, storage nearly full. The warning arrives the day a process cannot write.

The undocumented virtual machine

A machine running that nobody dares switch off. Without documentation there is no way to tell what it does.

Out-of-date systems, unwritten knowledge

The systems were left unpatched and the configurations depended on one person. With that person gone, any change is an investigation.

We start by taking inventory; all three problems turn up machine by machine.

Is this what you need?

If your case is not quite this one:

  • If you need somebody keeping what you already have running — inventory, tested backups, incidents — that is IT support: IT Support

How we work on infrastructure

Four steps; the first usually turns up more than expected.

  1. Inventory

What machines exist, what each does, who depends on it and what stops when it fails.

  2. What goes where

What stays in the office and what goes outside, with the cost of each option.

  3. Build or move

We deploy what is new, or move specific services one at a time, on Windows Server, Linux, virtualisation or containers.

  4. Tested backups

We configure the backups, automate them and check that they work by restoring them.

Who this is for, and who it is not for

A good fit

  • Small businesses with a server in the office the work depends on.
  • Anyone paying for cloud resources without knowing whether they are worth it.
  • Anyone who wants to virtualise their server, or has none yet.

Not a fit

  • Complex or large-scale architectures, which need a specialist team and permanent cover.
  • Anyone who needs high availability or a complete disaster recovery plan, which we cannot commit to.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to move to the cloud?

Not necessarily. For many small businesses the answer is a well-built server in their own office, with backups that work, and a service or two outside.

Do you move the whole infrastructure?

No. We move specific workloads and services, one at a time and checking each one. We also work hybrid, part inside and part outside.

What technologies do you work with?

Linux, Windows Server, virtualisation and containers on the systems side. In the cloud, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Microsoft 365, mostly deployment and management.

What happens to what you already have?

We inventory it before touching it. Usually we find things worth keeping, others that need updating, and one nobody knows about.
